GREATER LAGUNA COAST FIRE SAFE COUNCIL
MINUTES
February 25, 2003
4:00 PM EMERALD BAY COMMUNITY CENTER
1. Approval of the Minutes of December 10, 2002 was MOVED, SECONDED and APPROVED.
2. Introductions and Announcements.

Announcements:
Wayne Peterson brought a copy of the Community Directory of the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce pointing out that our COUNCIL did not appear on the list of Non-Profit Organizations. He suggested that we introduce our purposes to the Chamber for timely inclusion in the next publication of December 1, 2003.
3. 2003/2004 Grant Applications
A. Curbside “Chipping” [trees, branches] to be contracted-out: $36,000. B. Assisted “Chipping” program to assist Seniors and others incapacitated for the Project: $26,000. C. Future 2004/2005 Community Fire Plan: $40, 000 approved by our sponsors of the BLM.
4. Financial Situation
Chairman David Horne said our Tax payments were made January 10, 2003 per schedule and on time. Our Bof A bank account balances are: Original Account $ 1,834. Second Account $37,000. Amounts Due In $13,000.
5. 2002 Grant Options
A. Wayne and Ilse’s Progress. Information categories for a Homeowner’s Booklet regarding firesafe shrubs and landscape. 1. Category list submitted to Board Members today with … 2. Fire Safety Draft of Fuel Modification Program.
Wayne recommended a committee be formed which would allow our Fire Safe Council funds for a brochure. The brochure will include professional input from a licensed biologist, landscape architect and provide for Fire Marshall inspection of items 1 and 2 above covering to be developed and existing properties. An annual maintenance plan is to be funded by the homeowner.
B. Pat’s Garden Club Contacts. Discussed fire-safe garden demonstration at City Hall for public observation.
C. Water District Project. MOVED,SECONDED,APPROVED to be a member Of the Water Department property/project and support the cost of the Landscape garden area in front of its offices to publicly demonstrate fire-safe Planting.
6. Statewide Board Meeting (Wednesday April 16th). David encouraged available Board Members to attend.
7. Regional FSC/Statewide Meeting (Saturday April 26th) will be held in San Bernardino.
8. Other. Received a bill $174.00 for our share of Trolley-Tour on November 2, 2002 for participants seeing Laguna’s fire exposure and rebuild, goats in action and new reservoir. Also, John Fox passed-out attractive copies of BBCAMERICA garden makeover information, and said he would gladly be our representative to receive updates for potential use to homeowners.
9. Next Meeting: Tuesday April 15, 2003, 4:00 PM at the Emerald Bay Community Center.
